Cheerleading involves more than just cheering the home team to victory, or performing crowd-pleasing stunts. It provides many physical, mental, and emotional benefits for girls too.
Physically: Cheerleaders practice and perform various stunts, routines, and dances. They get the crowd involved in the game. Cheerleading can teach life skills, including teamwork, discipline, and communication.
Mentally: Cheerleaders must stay healthy and physically fit. It promotes dedication and desire. All the values play an important role in the lives of cheerleaders and will follow them throughout their adulthood.
Emotionally: Cheerleaders form sister bonds among the girls on the squad. Through winning, losing, and long hours of practicing, cheerleading helps form lifelong relationships.
I really enjoyed your categories here. Cheerleading is most certainly a great way to form relationships and benefit from aspects other than the actual performances.
ReplyDeleteI remember when I use to want to be a cheerleader so bad ! But I never had the motivation or determination to tryout. You talk about one thing I was hoping to get out of cheerleading if I would have joined and that is relationships with other girls. Ive always been the type of girl who would get along with boys and be friend with them rather than girls and I was hoping cheerleading would have broke me out of that, but unfortunately I never tried out. :(
ReplyDeleteOmg, I wish you would've did it! I'm the exact same, I hang/get along with more dudes than I do females. But I promise cheerleading form great sister bonds. When I first started cheering, I didn't no any girls on the squad. Once cheer season really kicks in though, those girls are the only one's you mainly be with from practices, games, and competitions. Like for me, my cheer sisters and I use to go out everywhere together, have sleepovers, talk about any and everything together, etc. Its like they became my REAL sisters. It's a great experience!!! :)
